Raleigh Charter High School
Architectural Design and Planning Group was privileged to assist the highly respected Raleigh Charter High School in their relocation to a new home in 2011. Early efforts involved assisting the school in exploring design options for expansion at its former beloved Pilot Mills location. When this option proved not to be viable, ADPG assisted in validating potential new locations for the School. Once the current location was found, we led a design process with an exceptional collaborative between students, staff, contractor, and our office.
The members of the Raleigh Charter family were vehement in protecting and embracing the unique existing character, qualities and even flaws of their former location at their new home. The resulting design embodies a unique historical character reminiscent of the former site but within the confines of a modernist building envelope. Colors, materials, and much of the labor in finishing this special place was contributed by students, family, and staff volunteers. The new 43,000 SF, 41 classroom facility serves grades 9 thru 12.
